You can’t love her if she don’t stay A woman like that there’s a price to pay She gave you a life, she can take it away You can’t love her if she don’t stay She walks in, and you make room You’re never really ready but it’s what you’ve got to do It’ll all be over before too soon She walks in, and you make room No silver-tounged man can inherit the earth It’s the callous on your fingers not the glory of birth You’ve put all your faith in the wrong sense of worth No silver-tounged man can inherit the earth Every man needs something to be, but if he does it blindly he’s nothing to see The meanest, hardest struggle is doing it right You’ve been spending all your time just pressing your luck You’re gonna lose her brother and you’ve lost quite enough This trip to the bottom don’t include a way up You’ve been spending all your time just pressing your luck Searching isn’t life, and it comes at a cost You’ve been looking so long that you’re surely lost When you’re hoping for the world you can forget what you’ve got Searching isn’t life and it comes at a cost Every man needs something to be, but if he does it blindly he’s nothing to see The meanest, hardest struggle is doing it right Let me tell you something man it’s night out there There’s no fires left burning and an absence of air You can suffer in the world and there’s no one to care Let me tell you something man it’s night out there \If you never wake up then it isn’t a dream This ain’t indictment and it isn’t a creed The engine is turning but it’s all out of steam If you never wake up then it isn’t a dream Everyman needs something to be, but if he does it blindly he’s nothing to see The meanest, hardest, ugly, struggle…doing it right

American Man 04:39
I loved it once, but she’s starting to break The life we won is being given away When I’m losing faith I hear the preacher say Treasure the past, it’s the American Way I’ve never been the sort to head downtown There’s too much color, and too much sound If my father could see this, he’d burn it all down It was sacred to him this American ground The modern world has got me up on a wall They call it living, I’m hardly living at all In times of trouble, I pray to god that I never have to take it too far So raise the flag, cover you heart with your hand Hear the call, and heed the command Living my life with my head in the sand Praise the lord I’m an American man There’s trash on the streets and the devil’s in charge We lost everything of value in the culture wars This is my home, but I’m a stranger here If I had any left I’d cry American tears I’m not a violent man, and they’ve already one But I’m bring a plague, I’m bringing the guns If they won’t stand with me, they’ll damn sure run Remember the words of America’s son The modern world has got me up on a wall They call it living, I’m hardly living at all In times of trouble, I pray to god that I never have to take it too far\ Raise the flag, oh isn’t she grand Casting her shadows, but her applause her is canned I salute her virtues with blood on my hands Praise the lord I’m an American man Raise the flag, see how she stands When I see her colors, I know who I am I’ll die for her, and by my own hand Praise the lord I’m an American man

Burdens 03:20
They call it endless summer, but it’s the worst I’ve ever had I’ve been huffing gasoline in by best friend’s trans am Life in this town ain’t as easy as it seems It eats up your whole heart and shits away your dreams I can hardly think about it, you know it only brings me down I’ve been working scrubbing dishes at the diner downtown I’m saving up my money, gonna take a greyhound Load my back with what is needed, and I’ll never settle down “Come on, baby” say the visions in my head Another night in this town and I’ll be the walking dead Maybe my dreams turn to burdens instead, But I’m only 17, I’m headed for the sun, and I’m getting out of here while I’m young enough to run They’re all masters with your roots down and all shadows when in flight I’ll make very breath a prayer, make every word a fight Ignore every sign of failure even though I’m sure I might I’m 17 so please let’s blow this town tonight “Come on, baby” say the visions in my head Another night in this town and I’ll be the walking dead Maybe my dreams turn to burdens instead, But I’m only 17, I’m headed for the sun, and I’m getting out of here while I’m young enough to run I’ll roam this whole world over ‘til the angels take me home The only things that matter are the ones you do alone My journey will be endless, my voice will shake your bones Or at least I’ll have a story this world has never known “Come on, baby” say the visions in my head Another night in this town and I’ll be the walking dead Maybe my dreams turn to burdens instead But I’m only 17, I’m headed for the sun, and I’m getting out of here while I’m young enough to run

Tied 04:03
It don’t take much to keep me going Just a lash across my back The modern blues are self-inflicted Masochism’s the new black Won’t you tie me to your love Tie me to your living room chair Won’t you tie me to your love Make sure that I ain’t going anywhere I can’t take it easy, I won’t think for my self I can try to get on, but I’ll need a little help Won’t you treat me like the animal I am? If I’m powerless and disconnected You know I can’t be blamed I’m wrapped up in your skins of leather Joined the voluntary lame Won’t you tie me to your love Tie me to your living room chair Yeah tie me to your love Make sure that I ain’t going anywhere I can’t take it easy, I won’t think for myself I can try to get on, but I’ll need a little help Won’t you treat me like the animal I am? I want you to hurt me, I need it, I love it, I love you
5.
Whoa, you’re chaste and rapture steeped No notion could hold me from your body’s keep I’m a master of lock and key So, have you heard the noble make mention of my great acclaim In dark on night I loose their spoils, no critic dares to speak my name I built the gallows where they’re gonna hang I’m a man by day God by night Break my stride Swing me high Whoa, my love, they’ve submitted their final plan My soul, it’s tethers cut, a device of my own hand But I wanna be your man
6.
I can remember, the first time that I cried I was broke down and busted, and stranded in Van Nuys Sometimes I wonder if it’s worth what I’ve spent Walking the line between faith and good judgment Midnight back home in the cool country air Our new bodies moved in trial and error Sometimes I wonder what I’m hoping to find I’m walking the line between what I want and what’s rightfully mine It took my whole life, but I’m finally here Nothing can harm me, as long as you are near I’ve seen so many things, but I’ve always been blind Walking the line between what I’ll keep, and what I’ll set aside

9 To 5 03:58
You set out of your nightmare, and promised everyone There was no roundtrip ticket, there was no coming home You went to the congregation, convinced no one of your worth You walked across the nations, still found no place on earth Take the freedom of a 9 to 5 You told it to your mother, you told it to your pa But noone’s going to come save you when you’re strung out in Wichita You’ve been so many places, but you haven’t done a thing Stood in judgment of the chorus, you couldn’t even sing Take the freedom of a 9 to 5
8.
Walter 03:52
Living is easy in a world like mine Nothing can leave you or die There’s no need to be the type of man who gets sick of everything that he loves I’ve never been pretty, I’ve never had charm, but I go to a place I get by Take my hand friend and I’ll stay a child, if you don’t I’m a full grown man Hey, I’m Walter I’m out here living in a juvenile lie Hey, I’m Walter No pressure here and I do what I like Hey, I’m Walter Don’t know who I am, but I still got time Hey, I’m Walter I’m out here living in a juvenile lie Enemies they can make you whole, but I never really felt it like this Get it man, it’s comfortable, it’s wonderful it’s bliss Hey, I’m Walter I’m out here living in a juvenile lie Hey, I’m Walter No pressure here and I do what I like Hey, I’m Walter Don’t know who I am, but I still got time Hey, I’m Walter I’m out here living in a juvenile lie Won’t you be my friend Help my ends Justify my means Well I’m living in it Hey, I’m Walter I’m out here living in a juvenile lie Hey, I’m Walter No pressure here and I do what I like Hey, I’m Walter Don’t know who I am, but I still got time Hey, I’m Walter I’m out here living in a juvenile lie

Beale Street 03:04
Come in brothers, there’s a story to tell One of damnation born of grace A promised land behind the gates of hell Where the rough beast slouches to drums of faith They bus them in and bus them out Pilgrims going to meccas past The dead can only give you so much clout When this pell-mell worship begins to pass Come and see a city of ghosts They’re dealing communion at Sun Studios A cathedral once, now a skid on the row Writing their check as the kings walk away Down Beale St The community heart is the local pawn Stuck to the wall with a buyer’s pin The privileged regarding from tailored lawns There isn’t remorse so it isn’t a sin The candle’s burning at the end of its wick It’s plain to see on the EPB Now rock and roll is for turning tricks This coming flood is going to clean these streets Come and see a city of ghosts They’re dealing communion at Sun Studios A cathedral once, now a skid on the row Writing their check as the kings walk away Down Beale St Graceland’s a gravestone Come and see a city of ghosts They’re dealing communion at Sun Studios A cathedral once, now a skid on the row Writing their check as the kings walk away Crawled off their crosses in this Passion Play Set on Beale St

Kiss It 02:45
Well it calls upon you daily It’s ringing in your dreams It walks without discretion And it isn’t what it seems Man it’s, twisted up and ugly And its hands are dry as clay Its company is awful But it takes the pain away You could’ve stopped it sooner If it hadn’t gotten hold If you’d had a premonition Before it took you home kiss But it’s left you in destruction And you’re never coming out It’s got its fingers in your stomach Stuffing you with doubt Hey you know, it’s blood is born of savage heart Oh, it wants to take you kindly in it’s arms Come here brother it wants you to kiss it You can do your best to tame it You can take away its name You can try to take possession But it owns you just the same It makes whores out of sisters Fit your father like a glove Gives you pure abandon Steals away your love It’s gonna drown you in the river Hey you know, it’s blood is born of savage heart Oh, it wants to take you kindly in it’s arms Come here brother it wants you to kiss it It takes you down the alleys And it works you like a slave It breaks apart your body And there’s nothing left to save So kiss it

3 A.M. 06:17
Well the words they came to you easy But they let you down in the end I’ve seen the end of lovers I’ve seen the end of friends They’re all enemies in the bedroom And even more reside up stairs You’re so far beyond self-control It’s been this way for years I’ve soaked myself in alcohol I’ve worshiped every idol I’ve pissed on every monument I’ve prayed to Oscar Wilde I sent my sense of self worth You can sign for it COD This mea culpa bullshit is bringing me down Maybe tomorrow will bring me one more day of sun No consequence, no self-reflection, just living on the run Well they’re coming for your money, they’re coming for you skin I can hear them through the darkness sitting here at 3am In a world of dull reflections Where the wounded walk on ice Where the care of perfect strangers Is as strange as paradise Can you love me without touching 4Can you help me without love I can’t imagine someone close enough Maybe tomorrow will bring me one more day of sun No consequence, no self-reflection, just living on the run Well maybe I’ll turn to Jesus, maybe I’ll cash it all in I can feel the darkness coming, sitting here at 3am It’s coming It’s coming Kill me

The Desert 03:41
It came in the night without alarm and turned our bones to dust We all knew it was coming though it was never discussed It’s been a blast, but we’re all out of time Watching the masses toe the company line They kill the gardens and dilute the sublime It’s gonna take it man, and eye for an eye It came before we could tell Nothing we could do or say It took the children, and poisoned the wells There it goes, wasn’t quiet or slow The desert will put you on your knees for a little bit There it goes, curtain call for the show The desert won’t leaving anyone wanting When the sands came in they swallowed us whole But displayed our sins One little piece to make sure that the dagger was in And even now that everything’s gone You hear the echoes of the siren’s song The earth’s abandoned and that’s how it belongs An empty lot between the devil and god It left the shell but it tore out the guts Nothing we could do or say It took our shrines and covered em in rust There it goes, wasn’t quite or slow The desert will put you on your knees for a little bit There it goes, curtain call for the show And the desert won’t leave anyone wanting
